New York Day 2

hi all,

today i am going into the city to see the sights and hopefully find some shopping. It is very quiet here - all residential with milk bar/fish and chip shops on every corner. Yesterday i went to the american museum of natural history. the train is very close (2 mins walk). it is a little bit confusing about how to buy a ticket but i think i have worked it out. you have to put credit on a metrocard. each trip is $2 but i am not really sure if this one way or not. most of the ppl in shops and customer service are not very helpful. except the guys that i bought the sim card off. they tryed to sell me everything in the shop! i pick up the car tomorrow and it is looking scarier and scarier. the traffic doesn't really seem to follow the rules properly and i still have trouble crossing the road. one thing that really freaked me out was how to cross at the lights - there are walk and don't walk signals for pedestrians but no button to press to get the lights to change. there signals change on their own. most ppl just seem to walk when they feel like it.

the food here is fairly cheap but not very nice - the only stuff i seem to be able to find is fast food (from the fish and chip shop/milkbars. there are no supermarkets in this area.

i am about to run out of time

love sarah

Hi Sarah,
Dad says not to be too worried about driving. Just take things very slowly and it should be OK. As long as you don't go too fast nothing really bad can happen.

It's Thursday night here and I have finished for the week. Thank heavens!
Dad and Mark are crawling around in the roof and under the floor trying to get the telephone wires into a new place. Why? I'm not quite sure - but there is a lot of grumbling and sawing going on at the moment.

Dad has the day off tomorrow too so he and I are going shopping for new carpet to put in Claire's old bedroom.

Mark is complaining because he is starting back at work tomorrow - he's only had about a month off! And uni starts on Monday.
Hope you're enjoying your holiday.

Hi Sarah

Gerard sent your blog details to me, but I could not access it from the hospital :( anyway sounds like an awesome adventure to me :) your stories are bringing back my memories from the US. Breakfast is the worst, everything is yuck. You will be craving fresh fruit and vegetables by the end of your trip!! You'll have to find a supermarket soon. Keep the blogs coming, its good reading. Take care. love from shika

Hey Sarah,
Hope you are having fun.
We had a great honeymoon. The place was beautiful, we saw heaps of wild life, including heaps of leaches. The river was awesome. You would love it. We had no trouble with the hire car, although we did manage to get lost trying to get on and off the freeway, and if we can get lost in QLD, I can't imagine what it is like in America. We watched bowling for Columbine while we were away. Stay away from all the white people in small towns, cause they are the dangerous ones and any schools. Are people really as weird as they seem on all the reality shows etc? And is the news actually have any news on it? How can they not have supermarkets? We had trouble finding them in europe too though. They hide them there, I would have thought that they would be easy to find in America. Maybe they are in big shopping centres only? I hope everything is going well and there are lots of pretty things to see.
Love Claire and Matt
